I'd agree that there are some similarities in theme between the two. IIRC (It's been a while since I've owned Nightlife), supernaturals in Nightlife even had to burn some of their humanity in order to get or improve powers. (Although the fact that some of the creatures weren't human to begin with made that seem a little silly to me.)
