Okay.

I was talking about 'real world' skills, and not 'in game' specifics. If demolitions skill will let you 'brew your own', then it's a bit silly to say that Player Characters cannot 'afford' them!

Then, Sir, may I suggest that your experience is far too limited! {Grin!} Yeah, I, er, they, can be a pain, but sometimes, they can be amusing, as well! Depends on whether or not they can ever 'turn it off'!

>Again, the writing really isn't that bad. >Much of the DND writiting is far, far worse,

Certainly true of the earliest editions, but not of d20, so far as I can tell...

>and i can't think of another hardcore Sci-Fi >RPG that even comes close to BL.

Depends on what you're looking for, but FGU's old 'Space Opera' was pretty good!

>Superheroes: Who hides from muggers?
I don't know about BL, but in RoleMaster, the game system is such that, not only do you not dare to oppose anything as dangerous as a small dog, but you dare not get out of bed in the morning, for fear of bad dice killing your character! Anytime I hear someone praise a game for being really lethal, that's the standard I think of, and exactly why I cringe...

>BL is lethal, sure, but your hyperbole >doesn't reflect the reality. If BL's combat >system runs to close to reality for you, try >joining the service.

Uhmmm, excuse me? If I can't handle the idea of my character dying, what makes you think that I'm inclined to try it myself?
I know 'real world' combat is lethal, which is WHY I prefer to stick to gaming! :->

>People dies, soldiers die, superheros die.

Yes, but not under the same circumstances!
'People' die from getting run over by a speeding car. 'Soldiers' might die in a firefight, but Superheroes tend to die only if it's needed to save te Universe (or if their sales have been really lousy)!

>If they don't (or worse, can't) die, then >they aren't really superheroes.

Okay, you're one of THOSE, aren't you?
Doesn't care for Superheroes in the first place, doesn't care for those who do like them, would rather they not exist?
Look, man, I'm not telling you that YOU can't play BattleLords, please don't tell me that I can't play what I like!
