Converted from Phorums BB System
It certainly has similarities, but I think the "returns" are more precise in Fireborn. With Shadowrun you have folks turning into elves, dwarves, trolls, etc., kinda randomly. Fireborn is nothing like that.
You have the fey, both seelie and unseelie, who wander back into the world from the otherworlds they've been inhabiting. You have the descendants of some werewolf-like creatures, whose ability to transform reawakens. You have the scions (they're special ;>). You have elemental forces of nature given life. You have LOTS of spirits (the incorporeal kind) who can manifest, or not, as need/demand/whim require. You even have intelligent viruses (blech).
I guess the feeling and intent behind the two games seems to be this: With Shadowrun, the foundation is that traditional fantasy and magic have returned to a cyberpunk near future. Shake and serve. With Fireborn, the foundation is that a very specific pseudo-historical fantastic world once existed, and has now returned, in some specific niches and manners. Investigate and enjoy.
That's my take on it as developer, anyway. Hopefully it comes across that way to readers as well.
