Converted from Phorums BB System
it is a deady system due to the way damage works. if you hit (a d100 roll eqal / under your WS) the damage done is equal to a d10 roll, plus your strength bonus, minus the victim's Toughness bonus and armour. now assuming on average strength and toughness cancel, it is a d10 roll versus armour, which has a maximum of 5, so a good blow (high d10 roll) will be doing 4 or 5 woounds of damage per hit. a perosn is lucky to have 10 wounds, so in two hits they are down to zero wounds. it is then that critical hits are suffered - basicaly everytime you take damage whilst on zero wounds you take a critical hit, which range from forcing you to drop your weapon through to instant decapitation. a seocnd consideration is that if you roll a 10 on your d10 damage dice you may have inflicted Ulric's fury, which allows a second WS. if this hits you roll another d10 and add to your damage total - a further 10 on this dice means you keep rolling d10s and sum the total (no further WS rolls needed) - so you sometimes can cause amazing amounts of damage in a single hit. you can increase your wounds score through experience, but like any stat only if the career you are following allows it - this naturally restricts your stat growth. since wfrp is not magic-item heavy (at all) and the rules clearly state 5 armour is the max, there isn't the same creep as d20. sure more experienced characters are btter, but anyone can be taken down by a lucky (or unlucky!) sword blow. hope this explains it a bit.
