Converted from Phorums BB System
Howdy
Everyone's got a Strength bonus of some sort, even if it's only +1 or +2 (my Halfling character has +2). In addition to this there are certain weapons that extra damage (Strength Bonus +2 for example), or ahve the Impact quality (roll 2d10 for damamge and pick the best one).
As previously noted, combat is lethal, you only have a handfull of wounds and once they're gone, you're in a whole world of hurt. Even if Goblin are only doing a couple of wounds at a time (in our example rolling an 8), they soon go and healing can be slow.
It is important that sometimes you don't get damaged, as you haven't many wounds to spare and characters will soon die, if everytime something hits them, their wounds are dropping!
Just bye the bye, if they did have to roll a 9 or 10 on a d10, there's a 20% chance, so it's still four times more likely than having to get natural 20's (on a d20).
Trust me, if five goblins gang up on one starting character, he'll struggle...
Quote "From what I understand of WFRP2, a goblin could have no strength bonus, and a heroic fighter could have a high toughness (say +3) and the best armor (+5). Thus the poor goblin MUST roll a natural '9' or '10' to even damage him?
Could there ever be a case where a person has a > 10 in toughness + armor, thus causing weak opponents never to damage them (except for the special 'fury' roll)?"
