Exactly - the word Arcanum isn't used much in the book, since most of the time, the magical abilities are referred to in general. The only thing in the book that looked to me like it had any potential for confusion was the fact that Arcanum, which normally refers to a magical ability, is also the name of a feat which gives a character the use of one of these abilities.

IT would be a little like having a feat in D&D called "Skill" or "Spell." Not really a major point of confusion, but a little weird.
