Origins of HARP, and other things (was: Bestiary)

Converted from Phorums BB System
Probably...
RoleMaster (the 'prequel' to HARP) got it's start as "Arm's Law", which was just supposed to be an Alternative Combat System to original (pre-Blackmoor) D&D...
They later turned it into a 'complete' RPG, but the setting material was always 'Generic Fantasy', and nothing too specific.
I'm a lot more interested in whether or not they've fixed the Systemic Problems that 'RulesMaster' had...
Are 'Small Dogs' still the absolute, blood-curdling terror (to low-level characters) that they were in the old game? {We lost an entire party to a pack of such...}
Are 'Static Maneuvers' still in the game? I'm not a big fan of games where your head can explode because you tried to jump over a table...
Is the Magic System a little broader than it was? I remember the character whose major spell was 'Nasal Repair I', and that's not the kind of game I tend to enjoy...
It sounds almost like they're trying to bring RoleMaster into the d20 era, but I'm not sure if they know how...
