This Vs. D20 Future

Converted from Phorums BB System
Being one of those people that generally likes d20 modern (for all that it is a d20 product) and the sci fi kinda guy that I am, I naturally bought d20 Future when it came out. One thing that struck me about it was how much of it seemed to have been ripped straight from Alternity, difficulties and all. People like things, not generic catagories, but hard things, they like a setting, not a 'heres a bunch of ways you can play this, build your own setting from that' list. Frankly, if I'm going to go through the work to build myself a whole setting, I can work up rules for it myself.
This game, from what I can tell does not suffer from any of that. It has a setting, one that is well developed and pretty concrete. On the other hand, it suffers from setting sillyness. I say this without having bought the game, so I could be wrong. What I see here is a one note, Spacecowboys deal. Arguably the thematic opposite of D20 Future.
Too many options, not enough hard setting, OR too much hard setting, not enough options.
Just a thought.
