Well, I think cowboys are serious. There's basically only one way to herd cattle. And that's be a cowboy or gaucho.

And since people in the future will no doubt still eat meat, there has to be cattle.

But that's just one option - the cowboy stuff is really just in the smaller towns/wilderness.
