I have Lords of Darkness as well as Champions of Ruin. At first I, too, thought it would be a rehash. It isn't, not quite in the same manner. CoR focuses on fewer organizations and has more 'crunch', as it were. It comes from a somewhat different angle. Most of CoR meshes quite well with BoVD material, so I don't see a problem. BoVD wasn't the be-all and end-all of villiandom, in any case.
