Yeah, for some reason, Lovecraftian horror and sword and sorcery really go well together (two great tastes that taste great together). I'm not sure what it is, but even in D&D campaigns where the story has taken a Cthulhu-ish horror twist, it just seems so right, moreso than if the story took a James Bondian intrigue twist or Agatha Christie mystery turn.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but like you said, that horror flavor gives Conan an even more unique flavor.

BTW, as an aside, I just remembered that I have a book at home that is made up of Howard short stories all written as Lovecraftian horror. It's called something like Howard writes Cthulhu, or some such. Very Lovecraftian (no Conan) and good stuff.
