Re: [RPG]: Blue Rose, reviewed by Jürgen Hubert (3/4)
I just finished reading Blue Rose after it was recommended over on the SJGames forums as a possible good game to solo play with my wife.
Despite the diatribe against it after all the reviews of it here on rpg.net, I went and read it anyway. I have fairly liberal values and have no problems with homosexuality, trans-gender, or any alternate life style.
I was rather shocked that such a tiny mention of homosexuality in the book could cause such a reaction...and glad I wasn't ignorant enough to be taken in by the commentary.
The other seeming controversy was the tolerance, forgiveness, and environmentalism that is mentioned in the book. This was much more pronounced, but still, why is it so wrong to be tolerant, forgiving, or protective of the environment?
The system sounds really cool (available without the Blue Rose setting as True20), and the setting is rather interesting. IMNSHO: If uncomfortable with the romance aspect, it can omitted without affecting the game or setting at all.
