If you have to pick, try Ticket to Ride first. If you love it, you can then buy TTR:E. Or you can just move on. TTR is a simple, highly playable game. TTR:E is a little more serious-gamer friendly, but not (IMHO) inherently much better. I liked TTR well enough, but ended up being a bit disappointed with my TTR:E purchase because it's a bit more constrained, but otherwise just not that different.
The games you mention cover a wide range, from the simple TTR through the big, time-consuming War of the Ring and cutthroat Game of Thrones (I certainly wouldn't call either WotR or AGoT German-style). So it's a bit hard to address them all coherently as a group.
I always recommend a few of the somewhat older, truly classic games like Modern Art and Quo Vadis to people just starting their boardgame collection. You've got nothing on your list from Reiner Knizia, and he is after all the pre-eminent game designer of our time

Maybe after doing Hollywood Lives he'll work on an RPG sometime...
