Old-School Conan, by Crom!

So last night my wife & I had a few free hours and decided to get in a quick game. I ask her what she wants to play, and her immediate response is "Conan!" I'd dug out my old TSR Conan boxed set the other day and had re-read the rulebook (not hard to do, as it weighs in at a whopping 32 pages), while she'd found a character she'd made up some time ago but never played (Marcella of the House DiCarsi, a Zingaran swordswoman & thief). So I say "OK" and we're off.

Two hours later and she's:
*Had a chase scene with Ophirean guards who are a bit annoyed at her blatant horse-theft
*Found a hidden temple shaped like a giant toad in a hillface
*Battled one of the guards until the floor gave way which led to her finding a hidden cavern beneath the temple
*Made her way through the underground cavern to a shrine (a stone-carved toad with a ruby in it's toothy mouth)
*Snatched said ruby, which gets the attention of the toad-men who were lurking in the nearby waters
*Dispatched two of the toad-men in heated combat
*Fled up the nearly-hidden staircase as more toad-men arrive to give chase
*Bashed her way to freedom through the mud-caked wall of the temple, leaving behind the horse that started all her troubles (as it swiftly became toad-man food) but happily sizing up her hard-won treasure

It was incredibly fun, and the best part was we were able to do the whole thing in two hours. The game ran as fast as I remembered, so we were able to keep the action going with only rare glances at the book to refresh the ol' memory (hey, it has been 20 years since I last ran it...).

We're both looking forward to seeing what happens to Marcella next
