For the record (not that my usage is such a case), there are several situations where using 's to pluralize is acceptable. For instance, when the simple addition of an 's' would be confusing (I got four A's on my report card), because the plural form would resemble another word. For instance, when a lower-case letter is used as a noun (such as x's and y's in math). There are other examples.
RPG's would only be appropriate is RPGs would create confusion, which I doubt it would.
(Anyone want to object to me referring to "RPG" as an acronym? Some insist that an acronym is only such when it can be pronounced as a word; otherwise it's just an initialism. Any takers?)
But we're clearly off-topic here. My dislike of terms such as "the Shifted" is aesthetic, I guess on the premise that no group of people would refer to themselves in such a way on a permanent basis.
