I Liked This Game

I know this is a game that is high on peoples' list of Games That Blow, but I think it's fun. It's not the greatest strategy game ever - in fact, I dare say it's not strategy at all. It's not particularly well-written - the rules are clear as mud on over half the scenarios and the haunts can sometimes be downright silly. It's not even remotely balanced - sometimes the bad guy couldn't lose if he was Barney Fife, and sometimes the good guys couldn't lose if they tried.

What's fun is the chaos. The fact that the game is an absolute quagmire is half the fun. I have played this game about six times, and had fun every time, despite knowing pretty much as soon as the haunt starts who is going to win. It's not a role-playing story game, as much as just a goof. But it's a fun goof.

If you go into this looking for a gamer's game, you'll be disappointed. But if you go in expecting to be entertained, and not looking for a challenge or strategic masterpiece, you can have fun with this.

I wouldn't have given it 5/5, though. There are tons of better-looking games out there, so I would give it about a 3 for style, and substance-wise, it's just not there. But the fun factor pumps it to a 4 for me, and makes it one of the few games to which my family returns on a regular basis. And by the way, those might not be the same scores I gave the game in my review. Feel free to sue me.
