A thousand people have already enjoyed Star Wars for every one that ever has been or ever will be acquanited with Firefly/Serenity. Hell, people will still be writing college essays on Star Wars in 2105.

The Firefly TV show was pretty well killed by FOX moving it's time-slot all over the place (changing times & days on an almost weekly basis), constantly pre-empting it for other things and showing episodes completely out of order (thus ruining the story-arc Joss was trying to develope). The show never had a chance under those conditions.
As for the movie bombing, it opened #2 in the U.S., made back over half its production budget by week 2, has had one of the highest per-screen earnings of current movies and has been well-recieved by critics and fans. Just because it wasn't a blockbuster doesn't make it a bomb.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't think it's going to make big box-office profits. In fact, I expect it to about break-even during it's theatrical release (maybe a little less, maybe a little more) and then make most of it's profit via DVD sales.
