Re: [RPG]: Serenity Role Playing Game, reviewed by Jamie Herbert (4/5)
This is a tangent, but- Firefly/Serenity's fandom is small-to-medium now, but I expect it'll grow. The film will probably generate a cult audience beyond the existing Browncoats, and we may see novels and comic books and so on that help flesh out the 'Verse. I think it'll stand the test of time.
The "map" is taken directly from the SERENITY Visual Companion (which is worth picking up in itself), and it was a graphic made for the scene in the movie where they've located Miranda, so it's not really a full map. What's weird is that there are a few systems portrayed, but one of them is our solar system and maybe the others are ones we know of but haven't settled.
I just picked up the game yesterday, haven't gotten the chance to get too far into it. I am impressed at how they got around some of the license limitations- they couldn't stat up Badger or Jubal Early, I presume, but they can still make reference to the planets that we saw and events that happened in the series. And the stock "Whore With a Heart of Gold" character is pretty blatantly the madam from "Heart of Gold". I'll have to give it a more thorough look tonight.
