Well, it is a second edition, not a 1E reprint, and most games have a tendency to change rules between editions. I don't see an issue, because you can stat relatively the same character in both editions (as exemplified by the Hero Archetypes, which changed very little between editions)

Now, see, y9ou competely missed my point! I understand it's a new edition... coming on the heels of a revision of 1st edition that left many people wondering why they bought that, if they were going to do a Second Edition so soon after...
I was mostly pointing out that the game makes 'backwards compatibility' difficult!
If you're starting from scratch, that's not an issue, but if you've already got a campaign, either as a Player, or as a GM (especially), not being able to do the same character IS a problem!
And, yeah, I suppose if you design your characters to be *exactly* like the presented Archetypes, you don't have a problem, either...
If you're trying to do an original character, though, or one who uses Powers that have been radically changed, yes, it very much IS a problem!
I'm not saying that you must hate these rules, just pointing out something that might be of interest to someone who's already got a 1st edition game going, who wants to know how hard it will be to convert to 2nd edition....

Don't see an issue here, Cold Control (page 78) is all about the Iceman (Actually, and I say this truthfully, it took me longer to figure out how to do Iceman with 1E, as I looked up Elemental Control first because Cold isn't mentioned on the big power chart).
|
Oh, the labelling may be much improved, but you don't seem to get the difference (not surprising for someone who doesn't have a Champions background) between a 'Multipower' (use one power at a time), and an 'Elemental Control' (use everything at once)! Iceman, in particular, can throw his Snowballs
while maintaining his Ice Slide and his Ice Armor... There's no "Well, I have to make myself more vulnerable to the Blob's attacks if I want to hit him with my Snowball!", as there would be if you were using either the Power Array, or a Multipower...
{Think "Power Reserve", with a really low Base Cost!}
Yes, you can still do the character, but it's much more expensive, now, as you have to buy each power seperately, at full cost...
which then drives your pre-existing character up to a higher level (if you used this technique a lot), which then changes the cap values you're operating under...
and, suddenly, your workable character is now some kind of underpowered joke!

Alternate Power is a good way to make (say) Iceman. Or even Spiderman's Webshooters (which can Snare and Create Objects, but aren't great at doing both at once).
|
It's much better for Spidey (or, as I said, Green Arrow), yes. It is, however, terrible for certain others, like Iceman, or, say, Sue Storm (who, by now, can fire off Force field Daggers while maintaining her Force field bubble, and so on...)

I did think the segregating of the Blast powers was a bit redundant, though.

Oooh... and this coming from a MEGS Maven... OUCH!
That's a bilt like having Joe Stalin complain that your Government is a little too centralized, isn't it?

If I were GMing, I'd call that a Power Feat. 1 PP please.

You, Sir, are far too kind! It was originally an 'Extra', at 1 pt. per Power Level!
My point being, it was in first edition, why take it out?

It's called GM arbitration, and neither set of minions rules works without it.
|
(Sigh!) Yes, no game can work without *some* GM input... but
WHY include a game mechanic that you
know is going to cause problems?
If it's really been playtested as much as they claim, this should have been a 'no-brainer'... This rule is more, not less, broken than what they had before, and pretty easily fixed! {Or, at least, 'improved', so that it's 'less-broken'!}

Something for us to agree on: I also believe that M&M2e is the second best superhero RPG out there. Only my 1st place belongs to MEGS (and has for years).
|
Heh, heh, heh! So, just when IS "Blood of Heroes: Standard Edition" coming out?
Seriously, I was on the DCH list for years, and I know the people who love that game really love it, but it was horribly, horribly flawed, in far too many ways to count...

I'm not trying to be antagonistic (and really hope I don't read that way). I'm just trying address the issues you saw with 2E.

And, I'm not trying to be antagonistic, either.. (except, perhaps, when we're talking about MEGS!
