Got it. Interesting... I was more going for material where it was long after the Rise, and there just weren't a lot of people left. My personal theory being that zombies would congregate around urban centers, as that's where the 'food' is. So, after a while survivors would end up finding themsleves having to move further and further away from the cities in order to stay away from the zombies.

Sure. It's just that the trappings of such a situation -- fortified bunkers manned by scruffy individuals with lots of firepower -- just lends itself to militia-like imagery.
