Ah, okay, so this is close (not identical) to the Old TORG game mechanic, with the Subplot cards...
Instead of using 'damage' to trigger it, it was done with Card Play {You toss in the card, you not only get to empty your hand of something you don't want to 'sit on', you also get a chance to earn another 'Possibility' of experience as a result of the Subplot!}
Frankly, though TORG's way of doing it is a little more random, I kind of prefer that way of doing it...
The only character I can (ahem!) 'realistically' think of taking 'damage' against his Reltaionship score was "Snapper Carr", 'Sidekick' to the Justice League...
