Frankly, though TORG's way of doing it is a little more random, I kind of prefer that way of doing it...
The only character I can (ahem!) 'realistically' think of taking 'damage' against his Reltaionship score was "Snapper Carr", 'Sidekick' to the Justice League...
{"Snapper, that's the third time we've had to rescue you this issue! Don't you have some Homework you can do, or something?"}

Come now Spider-Man has had his relationships rocky rocky roads too.
Of course, that's Marvel which for many years was more "relationsip" oriented than DC--Spider-Man had to deal with money problems constantly--think maybe that's a "damage" result as well? It isn't that the trait itself is damage though really just that the fallout from combat triggers some series of events that cause the event---Spider-Man get in a fight--he's hurt, bruised, but the big "damage" is we fdind out his stop to some muggers made him late for his date with Mary Jane!

The event is not directly from damage--but from sideeffects/fallout/situations that actual damage/near damage triggers.
