It is a product that embraces the whole Exalted cosmology. The secnario involving the Contagion spreading to Autochthon could be run without recognizing other Exalted me thinks if you wanted to paint Abysals and Deathlords as demons from beyond.

The three scenarios at the end of the book are really meant for epic Creation spanning crossovers with the Alchemicals and other stuff. However, the book could easily be used for all Autochthonian based campaigns. From political intrigue between the eight great cities to great quests to repair Autochthons far away systems to protecting the populace from a mad religious leader there are hundreds of adventures that can take place with just the core book and this one.

In summary, the book would work just fine if you want to tell the tales fo the Alchemicals without including other Exalted types but the scenarios in the back are generally geared to include a larger portion of the cosmology.
