Re: Army of Darkness

Davenport aks: "What aspects of the rules would you say most encourage the style of the movies as opposed to the styles of Buffy/Angel?"

I don't mean to speak for Evan, but I'm working on my own review of this game for my website, so just to jump in...

Some of the qualities and drawbacks (some of which Evan mentioned) encourage the type of playing seen in the films. Big/ Really Big Chin, Schmuck, Clown, all (if played correctly) mimick the facets of the movie characters' personalities that you won't see in a Buffy episode.

But realistically, it's just the mindset of the players. I really enjoyed the Buffy rules (wish I hadn't sold my book!), and I could have developed an Evil Dead campaign just using that. So, technically, it's not so much what's in the rules that makes this different from Angel, Buffy, et al., but how PC personalities are designed and whether you like campy vampire stories of campy demon stories.

But the mass combat system is sweet, and that's not in the other core books...
