Considering that "sempai" is more widely used in anime and in the Japanese language in general to describe mentors, role models, and people with greater knowledge or ability; regardless of their actual professional roles; I believe we made the right stylistic decision.
Whether or not the choice of names for the three Anime Realms was a good decision is a lot more subjective. The use of those terms has turned some people off, though many others have no problem with them. The text does clearly spell out the difference between how the terms are used in anime and how they apply to the game's mechanics.

The senpai/kohai relationship doesn't necessarily indicate mentorship, just seniority. The description of teacher for the background doesn't sound right to me. A "this is why we made this decision" answer would have been appreciated in the first place. My appologies assuming you were trying to be insulting.
The names of the realms thing is definitely a turn off. Partly because I get annoyed with people who put stuff like Maison Ikkoku in with girls anime because it's a romance. Genre and target audience are two different things. One of the best hard SF anime shows I know of is "They Were 11" which is shoujo.
Making the girls anime characters weaker is giving me just a complete disconnect. Sorry, but I don't get it at all, because I can name lots of girls shows with strong characters (starting with most of the magical girl genre). If others are okay with it, that's cool I guess. I definitely would not be able to get passed it.
Mechanically, your system doesn't look like it's for me at all (I should probably have mentioned this in my first post). Just not my style at all.
I had seriously considered ordering the game as it'll probably never show up locally (which would let me look before I bought). So I really meant that this review saved me the money.
