Making the girls anime characters weaker is giving me just a complete disconnect. Sorry, but I don't get it at all, because I can name lots of girls shows with strong characters (starting with most of the magical girl genre). If others are okay with it, that's cool I guess. I definitely would not be able to get passed it.

For what it's worth, we never make any claim that running a RandomAnime game using a particular Anime Realm sets it in any particular genre or indicates a target audience. We define and use those terms strictly for power level, and we chose to use those names just for color. It throws some people pretty badly nonetheless, though none of our editors or playtesters ever had a problem with it. You learn a lot once a book actually hits the market. =)
As for 'They Were 11' which is, indeed, a superb film, it really comes across as feeling more like a shonen anime, minus all the guns you'd normally expect in shonen sci-fi. It certainly has broader audience appeal than your typical shojo anime. It's based on a traditional ghost story of some sort, isn't it?
