And as an aside for everybody else: why the concerns over "gimmicky"? I mean, when original D&D first came out, polyhedral dice were gimmicks. You could reasonably approximate different percentages with multiple six sided dice, or with a spinner, both of which would have been much more intuitive to people before d10s and d20s became so common.

The Jenga tower things sounds brilliant to me, but even if it didn't, it wouldn't bother me. I can't see that there's any particularly special about dice that *they* have to the be fundamental default resolution system.

I wrote a movie! It's going to be on TV! “Family”, starring Renee Humphrey (Mallrats) and Boyd Kestner (Blackhawk Down, Hannibal), and written by yours truly, will be on Lifetime Movie Network (not Lifetime Channel, FYI) on Sunday, Jan 25 at 8am.

It’s a psycho-thriller about an escaped convict who gets hitches a ride with a cop and his son. Throw in a trunk-full of money, some old accomplices, insanity and a body count. Mix. Add popcorn.
