Over and over again, I keep saying: "It's not a horrible game". If I were "s****ing and sniping" at the game, I'd be declaring it to stink worse than Bull's gym socks-- however, nowhere have I even come close to saying that. It seems to me that some of the developers are taking offense at pointed criticism of their product-- and are declaring any opinion that does not say "nSR is TEH SUX!" is "hatred" and can be ignored. I have yet to see any of the developers admit that they might have done anything that wasn't absolutely wonderful and should therefore be worshipped-- and, while it is not a bad game, it is decidedly not that good.

The game is not bad. Allow me to end with the thesis from my review:
"Don't get me wrong-- it's a good game. It's just not an excellent one."
No one that I know of has said the game should be worshipped. However, it is a very good job. It has the best referencing I have seen in the roleplaying game - and having been reviewing roleplaying games for several years, I think I know a decent index and referencing system when I see one.

As for the rest - not one of your complaints or those of the, what, two reviewers you mentioned seem to match the actual product. Even the examples you drew on relied heavily on the argument "it's not Shadowrun anymore." I've managed to refute this, I feel, because I feel that the game has kept the spirit of the original game even when it has changed the window dressing.

HB - my recommendation is to let this lie now. You've said your piece. You're not going to convince me that I should lower the score. The second edition didn't suffer any of the major errors that I have come to expect in roleplaying products. It's system is solid and robust. It's presentation of the setting is, in my opinion, comprehensive and a great catch up for new players. It's advice is excellent. It's index and referrencing mean the minimal amount of page flicking - because it is easy to find information in a hurry. I have seen enough evidence now to back this up. So I will not budge here. You've given your review, so people who read both yours and mine will have more than enough information to make their own decisions on whether to buy the game or not. What are you hoping to achieve by arguing semantics and subjective opinion?
