Anything that minor should be an Automatic Success. The rules describe using them in situations where no hero would fail. You don't have to roll for everything. If the hero has an appropriate ability, they succeed.

Out of curiousity, can you name a system where this isn't the case? Isn't "Plate Mail" just a description for the number representing how hard you are to hit or damage in certain kinds of combat?
