A straight HP system is about as simple you can go, yes. Well, short of a hit=kill system, which wouldn't be much fun for PCs. The question is, why did they, when making what's essentially simplified d20, not keep one of the really simple aspects of the d20 system instead of replacing it with something more complicated?
