Also, remember the rules say faeries are not expected to give Boons to friends, since they are supposed to help each other anyway. This prevents clever players from simply trading Boons around until everyone has enough to buy more titles.

The Boons rules were the part of the book that gave me the biggest headache as well, Patrick.
First of all, it's not clear when and how often Boons should be awarded. Given that they're a de facto XP system, it would have been nice to have more information about the number of Boons a faery should be receiving per session/story/whatever.
There are also some contradictions (or, at least, passages in need of clarification). On p. 44, we're told that "While any faery can grant a boon . . ." But on p. 46, we're told that "Once she knows how (see Titles), a faery can even pass a Boon to another." Your posts here help clear up the second reference, but a more explicit statement that you only need rank when you want to transfer a Boon Something like "Once she knows how, a faery can even pass a Boon received from one being to another" or somesuch.
Best,
Rob
P. S. This is where a Boon chart (like the fan-created Essence chart posted to the FT board at Firefly Games) would be helpful. I.e., "you get Boons when or by . . ." and "you spend them to . . . "
