Hmm, or maybe the point is more that the story can't affect
them? i.e. a self-insertion character in a piece of fan fiction is no longer restrained by the rules of the game and, for example, a level 1 Orcish warrior could take down the mighty dragon Onyxia single-handed, whereas in WoW you'd need a raid groud 40 strong full of level 60's. Or in fact make friends with Onyxia and go on a killing spree, which is something that the rigid CRPG stories can't take into account?
Perhaps the author should think about cutting a deal with some of the larger MMORPG clans to advertise on their websites?
