Re: [RPG]: Spirit of the Century, reviewed by C.W.Richeson (5/5)
The SotC game C.W. ran was very fun.
I played a mafia "gofer" kind of guy for the Luchesse family. Connections in the military, and through another character, European royalty.
"Tagging" Aspects in the game is a really cool feature. When we were fighting a group of Raptors in a subterranean lab, for instance, I figured that a dinosaur probably wouldn't respond well to very loud sounds and I had a tommy gun.
So I tagged (on an assumption, mind) the Raptor's "Frightened by sudden, loud sounds" aspect, and tried to use my tommy gun to hold them all at bay, instead of just shooting at one of them. It didn't work, but it could have. There isn't often a situation, it would seem, that you can't use one of your characters Aspects or Skills.
We also used Fate Points for dramatic editing for good effect. The villain's robot minions were said to have displayed a weakness to logic riddles in the past. So we bombarded them with stuff like "What's the sound of one hand clapping", and "If a tree falls in the woods and no one's around to hear it, does it make a sound". Which resulted in the exploding of heads and the turning of the conflict's tide.
It was all very fun.
