The Roanoke colony was the first English colony in North America, established in the 16th century. It vanished without a trace, and is a very famous piece of American and British history. The reviewer probably assumed everyone was familiar with the story, and I was despite being Anglo-Danish, but yes, that is possibly a dangerous assumption as we have many non-American and British forum users.
