I had a blast reading
The Zorcerer of Zo because the book is constructed as a toolbox and how-to manual, something that greatly appeals to me. Then my husband used ZoZ to run our annual Christmas game, which took place on the Island of Forgotten Toys. In play, I found the game to be everything I had hoped for and more:
- Simple enough to teach a bunch of newbies within a few minutes.
- Encourages players to come up with creative solutions.
- Allows the GM to respond on the fly to the players' unpredictability.
- NPCs can be statted in the blink of an eye.
- You can easily move on with a quick fix if you're not sure about a rule.
- Gets out of the way of role-playing when it needs to.
- No "dump stats" -- everything on the character sheet is as useful as you make it.
