I actually found 700 point characters to be a little tedious to build in play, but once they were built everything has been very simple. Everyone knows exactly what they can do and the only times we really need to consult the book is for Power Flux. Even then it's not often since I have a lot of the values memorized from building a bunch of characters. In session one of my game the characters destroyed a space ship, an army of mecha, and a god without any need for looking things up.

I suspect you'll enjoy 3rd edition
