I believe Roger Ebert said something about reviewing the film that was made, not the film that you wish was made. There is an extent to which you have to be eclectic when reviewing products in various styles and genres- consider it in the context of what it's trying to do.
This doesn't mean you can't still give something a bad review. There is a difference that you can discern between what something tries to accomplish and what it accomplishes- it requires a close look, but it's worth it.
