So, what's the verdict on the 7.0 rules/set?
My best friend and I burned countless hours at this circa 1979-1982. We were extremely pleased that the system allowed as much latitude as it did for our imagination, and we had BY FAR more fun at this than any other RPG system I've played. There was downside: as others have mentioned, the leveling was crazy, as this system propels you into the triple digits. I'm not sure I like the 'death spiral' effect or not, as I've never played it without.
At any rate, I have no idea what changed between my black box edition of 1979 or 1980 or so, and today. Does anyone in the know care to compare/contrast them? This is relevant because I've been playing That other Game with a friend and his son, and I confess I find the combat system tedious. I've played two games of That other Game the past few months with entirely different groups of people and ended up playing the exact same "homemade" adventure: You are traveling with a caravan and you are attacked by [monster du jour]. Hours of thrashing ensue, followed by, "my goodness, just look how late it's gotten". This is nonsense. There's virtually no fantasy roleplaying in the fantasy roleplaying game. Outrageous!
So, I'm thinking of introducing a far-flung adventure in a T&T created world. If there is a system similarly simple out there, I'd like to hear about that too. Otherwise it is off to Ebay to find a copy of the original...
