That the content of the AD&D DMG is more than the rules. A lot more.

The magic item descriptions, the city encounters, the sample dungeon, the demon creation tables, the henchman demeanor tables, the dungeon dressing lists, etc. etc. I still use all sorts of stuff from the DMG in my fantasy RPG games.
