The DMG is also one of my favourite roleplaying books. But this is not a measure of its quality: all sorts of things can affect a reader's relationship to a book besides its quality.

An analogy from the world of epic films: I think there is no doubt that Lawrence of Arabia is a better film than Spartacus (in terms of acting, production etc). But Spartacus is, for me, perhaps my favourite film, not just as a result of its quality but because of my relationship to its thematic content, my admiration of Kirk Douglas and Stanley Kubrick, etc.
