Re: [RPG]: Noumenon, reviewed by Jocelyn Robitaille (5/4)
Hyphz,
You make some good points worth discussing.
First off, I'm the publisher, not the author per se, though I did contribute writing to the project. I'm was also the organizer of the material, the director in charge of quality control, if you will.
Secondly, the army of writers involved only designed the rooms and some of the NPCs. This means the main skeleton of the game was not handled by them, but by a single writer. The skeleton I refer to is character creation, the (possible) background to the game, the themes at work, etc. Each room is constructed around a theme. The writers were given the theme and occasionally an additional keyword or two. It is the collection of themes that unifies the game. Each room is just an unusual sandbox to play in, a means for players to explore a particular theme. Each room's content exists only to drive home the specific theme/message of that room.
Thirdly, as director of the project, I made a few little tweaks when something contradicted the game's skeleton. Mind you, this was nothing too major.
By having a skeleton in place and having the rooms written around themes, the project achieves a great deal of unity. While it is somewhat disjointed (by design) it all hangs together.
If I didn't explain things well enough or answer your point clearly enough, I apologize. I was merely trying to assure you and any other readers that the game bits all hang together to form a cohesive whole.
Thanks for your time and raising a valid concern.
Best,
Lee
