maybe it's because I've seen a couple of movies lately that fit the mood/time [The Good German, The Good Shepherd], maybe it's because Berlin's a very fascinating city, maybe it's because I'm german, maybe it's because the system sounds like similar to HeroQuest.... dunno, but it all sounds great!
Thanks for your great review that sparked my enthusiasm!!!
BTW - I'd really appreciate further suggestions for other inspiring movies, comics, books!

First off, I'd like to thank Olivier for such a thorough and enjoyable review of the game.
I'd also like to point out that the CD was relatively recent and stuck in due to us (me actually) sending the orders out out in a slightly less than timely fashion. However, given currnet exchange rates and the fact that we now have a Cold City bundle (hardcopy and PDF) available from
Indie Press Revolution, it only seems fair that we offer something similar to those who purchase the game direct from us. So yes, I'll stick a CD in with each order of the game for forseeable future. But it might not be the nicely designed one that Olivier got!
If you're looking for inspiring movies and so forth, there's a page on our website that has a reasonable list of stuff that I personally found inspiring. You can check it out
here. We'll be updating those pages next week as well, with links to some online short films that people may find interesting.

What I wonder about is the lack of an even playing field with respect to NATO characters. Outside of Paperclip, maybe Majestic-12, I can't think of a comparable antagonist from within the Western Bloc. Plus the copy at Contested Ground doesn't highlight Stalin at all.

In Cold City, there are huge grey areas for people to explore. The section that is being referred to regarding Stalin is entitled 'Contentious Issues' and covers th euse of Nazism and Stalinism in the game, due to the crimes commited by both of these regimes. However, this does not mean that Societ characters are automatically antagonists. Indeed, it's encouraged to play against stereotypes and accepted norms.
The Gehlen Org do feature in the game, as I find them a facinating ghost from the Cold War. They fit right in to the moral ambiguity of the times and into the themes that I try to get across in the game. I've used them more than once as antagonists, or sometimes even allies: enemy of mine enemy is my friend? Sometimes, but not always.
if there any any further questions at all, I'd be delighted to answer them.
edit: Oh, and here's a link to the first AP report for my currnet CC game that I started running with friends last week.
AP Report. There's also a whole bunch of other AP reports on
this page of our website.
Cheers
