Re: [RPG]: Aces & Eights: Shattered Frontier, reviewed by Galadrin (5/5)

"particularly for targets that were of odd shape (animals, objects, children, people in multiple poses etc.)"

Dude! Why are you shooting at children! Yes, according to the KenzerCo forums, a big book of silhouettes is coming out, and they have a bunch of free ones on the website already (the book also comes with a few).

"The review doesn't mention ANY supernatural stuff, for instance."

Nope, no supernatural stuff in Aces & Eights. I suppose you can add it easily enough, but the setting is already plenty rich without it.

"There are even rules for cattle driving and the quality of beef coming from the cattle at the end of the drive!"

I like the rules for trial by jury, in case your outlaw character gets caught and dragged back to the town. You can spend an entire session or two just defending yourself and trying to sway the opinions of the jury members, with each jury member having different strengths and weaknesses. If you play to their nature, you can possibly avoid the gallows.

I've never played Deadlands, so I can't say how similar it is. One of the big selling points of this game for me though was that it was a -complete- experience. They have rules for -everything-. And the aforementioned cattle drive rules remind me of playing Oregon Trail as a kid, which is another plus!
