Re: [RPG]: Mythweaver: The Splintered Realm, reviewed by Wyvern (3/3)

Thank you so much for the thorough and well-considered review. I really appreciate it that you took the time and energy to give the game a complete reading. I wanted to quickly address two of your comments...

"(the use of) level modifiers, charts and formulae to determine task DTs, and combat rounds divided into segments is counter-productive (for a game intended to be simple)"

I see where your concerns could come from when reading the rules, but I've included several points throughout where I make the math transparent to the player, where I 'show my work' as my friends who teach math always stress. I think that the rules may 'read' as a bit more complicated, but in play things move very quickly. In terms of the level of complexity, I dialed up the entire complexity for the game one notch from the previous edition (I really did look at it in layers... I added one tweak to each primary facet of the game: magic, combat, skills, monsters) in order to increase variety and player choice. Most of these changes are invisible in actual play, and I don't think that while playing you'll find that any of these factors slow play at all; initiative countdown (for instance) is intuitive and moves briskly.

Regarding the price point...

I considered the value of what I truly thought the game was worth against similar products, and I also considered what players were getting when they purchased this book. The biggest thing that players are getting from me is something that few other indy games offer- support. I make it a policy to answer e-mail questions with 24 hours as completely as possible, and I've been aggressive in creating and posting game updates. I've published six complete supplements so far (each 16 pages at $1.95- a very competitive price point) and I've posted four free updates to my web site (each focused on helping run the game or give options for players- alternate dice system, a collected index, a random character generator, a large map). I've also posted a free collected tables for quick reference during play on RPG Now. I have further plans to release two more supplements before the end of the month, and to follow through with monthly supplements thereafter. Some of these supplements have been a direct response to player request, and I expect that this trend will continue. If people express a desire for it, I'll do my best to incorporate it into the game's rules in some way.

I truly want people to PLAY Mythweaver, not simply to buy it. I want this to grow into a living game system that players take ownership of. I'd love to hear how players would like to see that take shape, and I'll do my best to make it so.

Thanks again.
