Re: [RPG]: Aletheia, reviewed by Jocelyn Robitaille (3/4)
Dan,
The underlying mechanical concept of Aletheia is the same as H&E, i.e. the occupations grant a breadth of skills which would naturally fall under the occupation. However, the occupations no longer add extra dice to the roll but rather automatic successes. This was done to facilitate the investigative aspect of Aletheia. I should also note that the game uses d6s (the amount rolled being equal to the Attribute rating) rather than the collection of various dice sizes used by H&E.
Also different from H&E are Descriptors. Each attribute has a Descriptor attached to it that refines the Attribute. For example, a player might assign a Descriptor of "seductive" to her Personality Attribute. In gameplay this means that any action where the Descriptor is of use, the character gets an extra die to roll.
Best,
Lee
