Converted from Phorums BB System

He apparently only noticed the rules for Ritual Magery, which is one of two methods presented for spellcasting. The other being the tried and true system that he hated in previous editions.
Ritual Magic in G4 is nothing like the Ritual Magic of GURPS: Voodoo (a disappointment in my opinion), but does handle "improvisational magic" nicely. That's one niche that GURPS typically had a hard time with.</b>

If they are, they shouldn't be. The Ritual Magic rules in the Basic Set are nothing more than an example of how to recast standard magic in a different skill framework. They are not a full replacement for the contents of Spirits and Voodoo. There will be future books for that.
We couldn't put everything in the Basic Set, but it made sense to us to at least get the concept into the core rules as an option for the existing spell list. Putting in a second spell list for rituals Wasn't Going To Happen, and the other option would have been to leave out ritual magic rules altogether, which I think would have been bothersome and wrong.
Please, give us time to release 4e books. You CANNOT fairly expect one core rulebook to reproduce 150+ books worth of material.

Apparently Ritual Magic more or less as is returning sometime later. This was simply giving standard magic an optional way of being played based on the Ritual Magic 'algorithim'.

So now, three years later, where is the book? Thaumaturgy appears to not even be on the schedule. Patience for what should be a core element (like the standard Magic and Martial Arts books) to be released is something that fades quickly among those who have been using the system for years and are now more or less forced to use the new system (since new players can't be gotten for old editions of the game if they can't buy the books in the stores).
