Re: [RPG]: [Horror Week] Kult: Beyond the Veil, reviewed by Andrew Montgomery (5/4)

Probably the best generic horror system, and on a par with the great Call of Cthulhu, the three things hold Kult back (except issue regarding print runs).

1) The sheer amount of information available on the setting is overwelming and its quite easy to get lost in the information available

2) Not for the easily unsettled - Keeping control of Kult can be tricky, with inexperienced players, and its easy to loose yourself and adventure in the players interepretation of the setting. Its a mature game, for mature players of sound mind!

3) The combat system is very poor.

However only point 3 is significant, and not catastrophic, its just a bit too easy for a 'lucky rolls' to result in TPK or the demise of a significantly threatening/important situation (the same applies to a lesser extent to Call of Cthulhu, but its relience on violence is much much lower).

Otherwise its worth owning, certainly worth reading and even if you just use the setting its better than the world of darkness.
