I think (I could be wrong) when dogstar said the combat system was "poor", he meant (judging by his comments) it was (and is) deadly. Very deadly.
Myself, my beef isn't so much the deadliness - Kult is a modern unforgiving horror game, not a game in which to play the hero, so dying randomly from a single stray bullet is neither surprising nor inappropriate in my opinion.
Instead I remember it as too complex for the genre, with too many stats you need to remember (or note down) for each weapon.
I mean, it would feel at home in a FBI/SWAT/mercenary game, where a weapons obsession would actually get you somewhere.
In a horror game like KULT, you will never have guns that are big enough, so a simpler and faster combat system would serve the game much better in my opinion.
