IMO it's a classic "Christmas" BS release: Get some purchases out of fanboys and confused moms and make sure you've got product on the shelves at a time when money usually runs free, even though your big product won't be out for six months.

As to what we've seen of 4E's changes, so far I am guardedly optimistic. I've liked Saga and, especially, Bo9S. Bo9S characters rocked. I don't think they were generally more powerful than optimized fighters, but they were FUN and at higher levels were a lot quicker than basic rules characters because much of the time you're taking only a standard action.
