Re: [RPG]: Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters, reviewed by Failed Saving Throw (4/

Why is it that a negative review is always considered a rant? I expect reviews to be like movie and music reviews; which provides insight and opinion without giving away the whole story. Entertainment media do have their differences, so therefore, their reviews are different. However, when it comes to gaming reviews the audience expects a synopsis without any commentary. I find that this boring to read. Now I do understand that explanation of the rules system is important for gamers, but the expectation to get a Readers Digest version of a book I think is silly. I personally have adapted my reviews more for this audience, giving more detail accounts of the books. I do understand my audience so therefore I have changed my writing. Yet, I will not sit there and list each chapter and I still try to provide insight and opinion on many levels for all types of gamers.

As to the people who say “this is a Rant!” You are falling into the straw man logic fallacy. You are trying to say it has no substance because it is something else and therefore dismiss outright. Skotos reviews all submissions before posting, if they felt that this is not a review they would not have posted it. Additionally, it has been present in a review format and stays on topic. If it has no substance or invalid points, address those. If you are going to review a review, perhaps you should apply some critical thinking that you expect from the initial review. The best way to lead is by example.
